Frequently Asked Questions

Who gets the marriage license?

The couple to be married must obtain the license.

Do we need witnesses?

Yes, two adults that are at least 18 years of age. They can be physically present with you or simply signed into the same Zoom session for your ceremony. Both witnesses must be able to clearly hear you when you say “I do”.

If it’s virtual, how will the witnesses sign the marriage certificate?

They don’t. Instead, I am simply typing their legal first and last names into the document in the online portal.

What if we don’t have our own witnesses?

I can generally provide both witnesses for you, at no additional charge.

What if we can’t be in the same location for our ceremony?

With virtual options this is OK! You don’t have to be. You can each be in different cities, states or even countries at the time of the virtual ceremony.

What if we do not speak much English?

You may have someone with you or signed into the ceremony to translate.

Can we record the ceremony?

I always record the Zoom session and will provide you with a shareable link to it after the ceremony is completed. I also take screenshots along the way, so you have photos and provide a keepsake item to further mark your special day.

What if we have a lot of people we want to invite to view the ceremony?

I can allow for up to 98 individual users to sign into the Zoom session for your wedding ceremony. Please ask all guests to arrive a few minutes beforehand and mute themselves upon entering.

Do we get a copy of our marriage certificate and how long does that take?

I finalize your marriage license through the online portal within minutes of completing your ceremony, generally you will have the certified digital marriage certificate within an hour or two. A paper certified copy will be mailed to you from the Utah County Clerk’s Office and is typically received in 2-3 weeks (can be longer for international).

We will be in a remote area that doesn’t have great internet reception, what happens if we lose connection during the ceremony?

Technically speaking, as long as you have both said “I do” after the vows you are legally married; however, I will do everything I can to ensure a complete ceremony for you, even if that means starting from the very beginning or revisiting it altogether on another day.

What happens if we need to postpone for any reason?

If the marriage license has been purchased through the clerk’s office but is not able to be utilized within the 32 day window, a new license will have to be purchased. If my service fees have already been paid, they will simply be applied to the new date and time once that is determined.

How can we give you or the 2 witnesses you provided a tip?

First, thank you! Next, here is my Venmo: @Rev-Christopher-Scuderi1 🙂
